Prague and Vienna are laden with beauty, history, culture and charisma. They are somewhat similar in that both are choc a block with magnificent castles and palaces, thanks to the Hapsburgs. The dominating Prague Castle and the stately Schoenbrun Palace in Vienna are icons in the world of palaces and stately homes.

Prague is one of the most visited cities in Eastern Europe while Vienna is rapidly establishing itself as THE major crossroads where Eastern and Western Europe meet.

Despite their similarities they are different in many respects. The center of Prague has retained its narrow cobblestone streets which have changed little for centuries whereas Vienna has become more modern with wide pedestrian precincts. Despite this modernity Vienna is vivacious and exudes bling, something that I don’t remember when I visited a number of years ago.
